Tournament success marks victorious return for Stella Park BC
The reopening drew a large crowd of members and supporters, marking a major milestone in the club's efforts to rebuild and secure its future.
STELLA Park Bowling Club marked a major milestone in its recovery on Sunday, July 26, when members and the wider community turned out in large numbers to celebrate the official reopening of the club’s bar.
The reopening coincided with The Captain’s Challenge Tournament, adding to the festive atmosphere as bowlers and supporters gathered to celebrate the club’s new chapter following the reissuing of its liquor licence.
Stewart Proctor and Gavin Conlon emerged victorious in the tournament, much to the delight of the home crowd. “We are just over the moon to be back in action and winning the challenge,” said Proctor.

He said the strong turnout highlighted the importance of the club to the local community. “The community support has been great and to see everyone out here is a good sign that we can keep the club going for a very long time,” he said.

“As far as the bowls are concerned, it’s good to see so many people participating. We haven’t had a tournament of this size in a while and it was very competitive. We both played well and that’s how we ended up winning the competition.”
Club president Captain Allen Brink and committee member John Connellan welcomed the successful reopening, saying it was an important step in the club’s recovery while urging members and the public to continue supporting future events.

“We are not over the hill yet and still need a lot more support. The area and bowls cannot do without a club like this. Without your support we would not survive, so it’s wonderful to see people out like this. Keep supporting us and all the tournaments,” said Connellan.
