EDITOR- Well it finally happened.
Some folks reached flash point and [allegedly] rushed out of Dalton Road hostel dishing out a hiding to any folks deemed to be connected to that centre of degradation known as Whoonga Park – that ugly of uglies, where addicts and malingerers congregate… stoned, and numb and ruined.
They leave piles of litter and plastic, with sh*t in the gutters and p*ss on the walls and an outward ripple of crime to feed the cycle of smoke – steal – sell – smoke – steal – sell. Any person with an honest mind knows that the situation is rotten and evil.
We’ve tried the municipality for the last five years – all those yuppies in the Metro talking on their cell phones, driving their Minis, Jeeps and BMWs, lunching with important people in Umhlanga, fat with money and riding the gravy train. But it’s no use to look to them for vision or leadership or integrity because anyone who takes so long to do so little, clearly doesn’t give a damn.
Any situation where young people have no hope is a spiritual problem, because no hope means no vision. Like Solomon (once considered the wisest king on earth) said, “where there is no vision the people perish” and these people are perishing, aided in their downward spiral by drug dealers, crooked cops, and dishonest and greedy politicians.
My suggestion would be to consult with the Shembe church. A church that can muster funds and people with discipline and focus… that can feed and control thousands of people, both rural and urban, without huge noise and litter… and generally with honesty and sobriety.
Their ways may not be everybody’s ways, but generally their ways work… “by their fruits shall ye know them.” I once saw a crowd of Shembe arrive and fill the park. About two thousand people dressed in white congregated for a worship session. They blew horns and they sang and spoke without electronic amplification, and they prayed together, and when they left, the park was clean – there was no litter to speak of.
Surely this group could bring help to this human tragedy, which is getting worse by the minute. They have two things that these lost people in Whoonga Park need… vision, and discipline.
Right now there’s nothing from City Hall.
