Another night of noise

A reader is angered by what he calls police incompetence, following another noisy event at Curries Fountain.

EDITOR – I was one of the many people blasted with another headache inducing racket coming from Currie’s Fountain on Saturday 21 June until 10pm!

I tried calling Berea SAPS on their number listed on p564 of the 2013/2014 phone book. A recording told me on each of three attempts that “This number no longer exists”. So I called my local Umbilo SAPS (at about 3pm, their number in the same phone book) and a person answered. I asked him if he knew when the racket was going to stop. He said he had no idea. I then asked if the Berea SAPS number had changed, and he informed me to call 1026 to find out. So I did. Another recording: “This call will be answered in 21hrs, 42mins and 13secs”.

My calls cannot be considered as extreme emergencies, however why are some people in our law enforcement services, who are undertrained, over-deployed and unmotivated, occupying the positions they do? And why do we (ratepayers) have to tolerate both the mindless noise, and the incompetence of our police services? All strength to Save Our Berea!
