Game team takes on Midmar Mile

Twelve years of swimming and R1,5 million for charity from this year's 2014 Aquelle Midmar Mile Game challenge.

WHEN it comes to the Midmar Mile things are going swimmingly for both retail giant Game, and the Community Chest which it supports.

Having taken part in a dozen of the country’s most gruelling sporting challenges, Game’s team of swimmers passed the R1,5 million donation mark this year.

Every year, Game donates R1 000 to charity for every team member who completes the race. The number of participants has grown from 30 to more than 230 since the first Game team swam and this year Game handed over a cheque of R230 000 to Community Chest.

Mass Discounters chief executive officer, Robin Wright, said he was proud of the dedication shown by the swimmers each year.

“The Midmar Mile not only provides an important opportunity for Game to contribute to charity and gives team members a chance to push themselves to the limit, mentally and physically, but it also allows them to set an example of what can be achieved through a healthy balanced lifestyle. This year, weeks of preparation in the water culminated in a hugely rewarding company swim. They achieved something great of which we are truly proud,” he said.

Director of the Community Chest, Gordon McDonald, who completed his first Midmar Mile in 2003, added his thanks for a wonderful 2014 Midmar Mile.

“Speaking for both myself and the Community Chest as a whole, I can say we are very proud to be part of this event through Game. Funds raised have and will be used to support organisations that are making a real difference in the lives of our most disadvantaged people,” he said.
