Dojo has high aspirations for 2014

SKISA Morningside Dojo karateka are hoping to bring home titles in 2014.

SKISA Morningside Dojo karateka are ready for the 2014 karate season.

Last year karateka Divashini Naidoo, Akhiel Singh, Lameez Adams, Daryl Rajbal, Nico Rajbal and Kasey Pillay, attained KZN Developmental colours and will try to attain KZN colours for 2014 as well.

Sensei Theo Pillay (3rd Dan SKIF-Japan), a Protea karateka and an assistant instructor at the Morningside Dojo, recently participated in the 2014 SA Karate Nationals in Bloemfontein. The 2013 U21, All Styles Karate Champion moved into the Senior division (21 and over) this year and gained 3rd place in the over 84kg division for Kumite at the 2014 Nationals.

Sensei Tina Lee (4th Dan SKIF-Japan), SKISA Morningside instructor said: “I am extremely proud of all karateka and their achievements for 2013. To be a good teacher you must instil great values, discipline, etiquette and proper karate techniques in all students and one must ensure the students emulate the same disciplined attitude in and out of the dojo.”

The dojo anticipates many champions for the upcoming tournaments planned for the year, more especially at the International Kanazawa Cup and looks forward to the many training camps set for the SKISA 2014 calendar.

Sensei Brando Pillay (5th Dan SKIF Japan), National Protea Karate coach and SKISA Chief Coach wished the SKISA Morningside karateka and instructors the best for the 2014 year. “I also wish athletes Theo Pillay and Riasha Singh all the very best for the upcoming KSA Elite Tournament to be held at Durban University of Technology on Saturday and Sunday, 22 and 23 February 2014. The mark of a champion is consistency,” he said.
