Local mum launches new book
Paula Dwyer launched The Rainbow of Resilience, the second book for the Glenmore mum last week.
GLENMORE mother and business woman, Paula Dwyer launched her book, The Rainbow of Resilience – 25 Steps to Developing Emotional Intelligence at Glenwood High School’s Mike Turrel Pavilion on Friday, 8 November.
The Rainbow of Resilience is Paula’s second book, after her debut book How to Catch Time Before it Catches You, on time management in 2003, whilst juggling her duties as a mother, part time student at UNISA and full time job. Her books usually stem from her trying to find coping mechanisms for herself, working mothers and others in the business industry.
With The Rainbow of Resilience, Paula said, she realised after being in business and the field of training for many years, there was an emotional side to management. “While trying to run two businesses, my family took a back seat and it was a very low period for me. I was very stressed and wanted to sort my own EQ (emotional intelligence) out. EQ is perfect for parents with a businesses because it is a simple step-by-step programme to manage your life.”
As with her first book, Paula said she initially wrote the book for herself. “It was difficult at first, going into my emotions becasue with the first book I used ten characters, but now I had to look at myslef introspectively,” she said.
According to Paula the book is for everyone in the working environment, especially mothers. “Women have to be the mother, the wife, the business woman and excel at everything, so this book will help you practically.
“Through analogies with nature, the weather pattern approach in this programme enables you to naturally build up your own personal resilience so you are more able to handle life’s storms when they approach you.
In the book I relate my own personal development in applying this pattern to my life. Anyone can use this 25 step programme to enhance their emotional (and spiritual) well-being. The skills are simple if the mind is willing!”
Thankful for her supportive family who were brimming with pride at the launch, Paula said. “I am very blessed to have the full support of my family and my husband Ian was a good sounding board, always listening to my ideas and giving valuable input.”
Julia Dwyer, Paula’s eldest daughter, who has benefitted with more time with her busy reslilient mum said, “I would like to congratulate my mum on the launch of her new book. This is a big achievement and I know many people will benefit from the hard work she put in.”
Paula’s book is available online at amazon.com and in electronic version. She will conduct a training course alongside the book called The Resilience Workshop. Email Paula on padwyer@wol.co.za for more information.
