Guitar masters collaborate for Durban shows
When two artists from different worlds come together with a common goal of stretching their creative boundaries, this is when the magic happens.
INTERNATIONALLY renowned Texan guitar virtuoso and songwriter Rodney Branigan and South African folk roots guitarist Nibs van der Spuy will be collaborating in an exciting and intimate tour this October.
When two artists from different worlds come together with a common goal of stretching their creative boundaries, this is when the magic happens. The duo performed in a show together in London a few months ago, and will now bring performances to Durban on Saturday, 12 October at St Clements, Musgrave, and on Tuesday 15 October at Toms Music, Park Boulevard Centre.
Rodney learned to play guitar in Austin, performed in Los Angeles, crafted songs in Nashville, and put it all together in London. A multi-instrumentalist with a rich and soulful voice often compared to Jeff Buckley, his music is an original blend of progressive folk, rock, flamenco, classic, bluegrass and jazz sensibilities.

Nibs is one of the most extraordinary and exciting world acoustic guitarists and exports to come out of South Africa. Nibs immersed himself in his natural environment to formulate a truly consummate and original sound. Growing up with the Beatles and learning first hand from traditional Zulu Maskandi guitarists, he quickly soaked up a rich tapestry of his close surroundings and beyond. After playing the local folk scene around South Africa for years and gathering up a loyal following, his big stage break came after supporting Crosby, Stills and Nash on their 1996 South African tour.
