While the festive season is a time of enjoyable activities and to rest, it’s also a period when criminals see golden opportunities to prey on the public’s relaxed state of mind.
Previous crime reports showed that crime spike during the December holidays, as robbers, thieves and fraudsters look for easy targets.
However, in a bid to keep residents safe during the holiday season, the Reiger Park police have highlighted various measures they will use to clamp down on criminal activities in their precinct.
The newly appointed Vispol commander, Capt Patrick Dladla, vowed that the police in the area would be on high visibility during this festive season, with a number of raids on known crime hot spots.
“We as the police have responsibilities to make sure that our communities are safer 24/7, and as law enforcement, we have devised intensified policing strategies to use in preventing crime and tackling any criminal activities head on.
“Officers will be deployed in identified areas where they will be conducting raids, stop and searches and patrols as a measure to ensure safety,” said Dladla.
Dlalda pointed out that they are also going to deal with shebeens that are operating illegally.
“Even legal shebeens that are found breaking the rules will be immediately shut down. We will do our best to create an environment where people will feel safe, both on the streets and their homes,” said Dladla.
Dladla reminded the public to respect and adhere to the Covid-19 regulations. “Taverns must be closed on the stipulated time; and people, except those performing essential services, need to be home at 11pm.”
