Food drive held to ensure no pet goes hungry

The SPCA said it is grateful for the 'much needed' donated items.

The Brazen Head in Parkrand held a pet food and clothing drive to support the Boksburg SPCA on June 11.

According to André Barnard, of the establishment, with food prices soaring the business decided to recommence its annual SPCA winter charity event this year.
The Covid-19 lockdown led to this initiative’s indefinite suspension.

The aim was to ensure no animal goes hungry or shivers in winter.

As part of the initiative, the restaurant requested its patrons and the community to drop off pet food or clothing items, which served as ‘tickets’ to the live performances by musicians Johnny Meyer, André Barnard and rapper Blake Barnard.

Several generous residents arrived and gave whatever they could, and those who could not make it were encouraged to make monetary donations into the SPCA bank account. SuperSpar Parkrand also supported the initiative by donating 100 blankets.
The piles of donations were handed over to the SPCA.

“We are excited to host these drives in our business to support our local SPCA in its efforts to help animals in need and are grateful to our caring customers and citizens who supported us. I would also like to thank Parkrand SuperSpar,” said Barnard.
Glenda Osborn, who represented Boksburg SPCA, said they are grateful for the support, adding that the donated items are ‘much needed’.
