Van Dyk Park Puppy theft suspects released

Criminals usually target power-breed dogs.

The Community Patrollers Initiative (CPI) arrested three suspects after they tried to steal a mastiff puppy on Silverleaf Street, Van Dyk Park, at about 13:00 on September 18.

CPI chairperson Anton Botha said a neighbour spotted the suspects trying to take the puppy, but when they realised she was watching them, they dropped it and ran.

“The neighbour notified us. We pursued the suspects and caught them in a veld opposite Boksburg Correctional Services. We took them to our monitoring room.

“We showed them CCTV footage of them trying to steal the puppy, and they then confessed,” said Botha.
He said they detained the suspects and contacted the Dawn Park Police, who did not arrive, so the CPI released them.

According to the Dawn Park police spokesperson, Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula, the police only arrived after the suspects were released.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the Dawn Park Police Station on 011 862 1117 or dial 10111.
