Dawn Park NPO Tshepo ya Sechaba (Hope for the Nation) will host an Adult Abuse Awareness Walk on June 14.
The event will shed light on the prevalent social issues affecting elderly people and reignite joy, dignity, and fulfilment in their lives.
The walk will start at the Dawn Park Police Station at 09:00.
Cynthia Nhlapo, the founder of Tshepo ya Sechaba, underscored the organisation’s dedication to tackling the challenges the elderly face.
“The primary objective of the walk is to bring attention to the alarming rate of adult abuse and empower communities to safeguard their senior members’ well-being.
“Elderly individuals endure various forms of abuse in their homes, communities, and even in care institutions like hospitals.
“They often face distressing circumstances, from financial exploitation to neglect and a lack of respect.
“The initiative aims to spotlight these issues and advocate for the protection and dignity of older citizens,” said Nhlapo.
Beyond the awareness walk, Tshepo ya Sechaba provides a comprehensive range of services to support elderly people, including social activities, healthcare assistance, and advocacy for the rights of older individuals.
By fostering a supportive environment, Nhlapho said the organisation strives to enhance the elderly’s well-being and champion their rights.
