Henk Fortmann, Sunward Park, writes:
It was that time again. Time for the old man (that’s me) to get a haircut after nearly two months of staying indoors in Sunward Park.
I’m turning 84 this July (God willing), and let’s just say the legs, reflexes, and hearing aren’t quite what they used to be.
Luckily, my lovely and caring wife, though we don’t always see eye to eye, remains a terrific driver.
She took me out in our son’s well-worn Land Rover for a trip to the barber and to pick up a few computer bits and pieces.
Driving through Boksburg and the nearby suburbs, I was stunned. The streets were spotless. No litter, no broken bottles, not even a stray can.

The grass was neatly cut, pavements were clean. What a sight! For once, the town looked cared for.
Usually, this area gives off a neglected feel; rubbish lying around, grass knee-high, roads full of potholes. But this time, something was different. It felt like Boksburg had turned a corner. There was energy, effort, and pride.
As an old resident, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to everyone involved: the planners, the workers in the field and the office and even the police (who I’ve had good experiences with over the years). Your hard work shows, and it’s appreciated.
Let’s hope this is just the beginning. There’s still more to be done – fixing potholes, improving service departments and so on, but what a fantastic start.
