FOLLOW UP: Reiger Park Police boost safety with additional resources

During a crime-focused community imbizo at Victory Tabernacle Church, SAPS revealed the deployment of additional vehicles and personnel to boost safety in Reiger Park.

Reiger Park Police Station has deployed additional vehicles and personnel to enhance safety in the area.
This was announced during a community crime imbizo at Victory Tabernacle Church on January 30.

The event brought together residents and SAPS management to discuss safety concerns and reinforce the importance of community cooperation in crime prevention.

Spokesperson of the police station, Constable Johannes Msimanga, said the deployment is part of ongoing efforts to ensure resources are optimally utilised to protect residents and respond effectively to criminal activity.
“During the imbizo, we informed the community that additional vehicles and personnel have been deployed. This will allow us to respond faster to incidents and focus our resources where they are needed most,” said Msimanga.

The provincial head of the Anti-Gang Unit, Brigadier Albert Maphoto, highlighted the significance of community involvement in policing efforts.

“The police cannot fight crime alone. By working with residents and increasing our operational capacity, we strengthen both our response and deterrence,” said Maphoto.

Reiger Park Station Commander, Colonel Lionel Chetty, added that the new resources are part of a broader strategy to create a safer environment for all residents.
“This deployment is not just about increasing numbers, it’s about making sure our community feels safe and supported every day,” said Chetty.

Residents raised their concerns, including the operating hours of local tuckshops and spaza shops. The SAPS confirmed that all feedback will inform future crime prevention strategies.

The SAPS spokesperson reminded the community that safety is a shared responsibility.
“We encourage residents to continue reporting crime through Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS App. Together, we can make Reiger Park a safer place for everyone,” said Msimanga.
