All in to fight GBV in Dawn Park
The 16 Days of Activism campaign starts on November 25 up until December 10.
The Dawn Park SAPS initiated its 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign by handing out informative pamphlets about gender-based violence (GBV) in the area and surrounding suburbs on November 29.
Joining them in their efforts were the Dawn Park CPF, members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, the Ekupholeni Mental Health and Trauma Centre and the Ekurhuleni Department of Health.
SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Nkemelenge Mabula said the campaign was aimed at encouraging victims to report cases of GBV.
“It is our duty to ensure people trust us and report their injustices to us. The numbers of GBV, femicide and abuse cases have increased in our area.
“We want to do all possible to curb this problem – all year round, not only during the 16 Days campaign,” Mabula said.
He encouraged victims to seek help at the Dawn Park Police Station and to report these crimes, as it assists to police to gather statistics and fight this scourge.
