Many theft of vehicle cases reported at Boksburg North SAPS

The following cases were recently opened at Boksburg North SAPS.

Theft out of motor vehicle:
• A laptop was stolen out of a vehicle at Shoe Empire on November 28.
The complainant said she parked her car at the store at about 11:00 and locked it. When she came back at about 13:00, she drove to a car wash and there realised her laptop was gone.

Theft of motor vehicle
• A Toyota Wish SUV was stolen in the parking lot of Orama Roadhouse on November 25.
The complainant told police he parked his vehicle, locked the doors and closed the windows but the vehicle was gone when he returned.

• A silver Toyota Etios was stolen at the East Rand Mall on November 26, between 11:00 and 16:00.
According to the complainant, he locked the car and closed the windows.

• Police are investigating a case of theft of motor vehicle after a Nissan Pathfinder was stolen in the parking area of Birchwood Spur on November 25.
The complainant said he locked the car and closed all the windows.

• A Toyota SUV Prado, a company vehicle, was stolen at East Point Shopping Centre on November 27.
The complainant told police he parked the car in the parking lot at about 12:00. When he came back from shopping at about 15:00, the vehicle was missing.

Attempted theft of motor vehicle
• A white Toyota Etios was damaged at Pick n Pay Towers when criminals attempted to steal the car on the afternoon of November 21.
The complainant told police he parked at the back of Pick n Pay and the vehicle was locked. When he came back his remote did not want to open the vehicle and when he opened the driver’s door he noticed the ignition had been tampered with.

• A white Toyota Hilux was stolen at Razzle@566 on November 25 between 16:00 and 21:00.
The complainant told police the doors were locked and windows closed. While he was inside the venue, a colleague informed him that his car was gone.

The complainant phoned his tracking company to report the theft and they phoned him back within a few minutes to say the bakkie was recovered in Ivory Park.

Armed robbery
Police are investigating a case of armed robbery after a security guard was robbed of a set of keys and two sim cards at the Northpoint Spar on November 27.

The victim told police he was on duty and patrolling in front of the liquor store when he was approached by two men who pointed firearms at him and asked him where the restrooms are.

They asked him to go to the restrooms with them and unlock the door.

Three other men then joined the robbers. One of the robbers told the security guard to lie down while another tied his hands with shoe laces.

They then decided to untie him and took the keys and sim cards. The men wanted to enter the Spar but an alarm went off.

Fraud
Police are investigating a case of fraud involving a man and woman not paying for items at a store in Dayanglen on November 23.

The pair, who are known to the police, came into the store to buy something but their bank card declined and they did an internet payment.

They said the payment will show later and they sent proof of payment via WhatsApp. The payment never reflected.

Possession of drugs
A man was arrested for possession of drugs at Neptune Internet Café in Rietfontein Road on the evening of November 26.

Sergeant Benjamin Mavuso was doing a stop-and-search next to the café when a man came out. When he saw the police car he went back inside.

Mavuso followed him into the café and asked him why he went back inside so hastily.

He failed to answer and was searched and found in possession of a small ziplock bag containing a crystal substance suspected to be drugs.

He did not give a satisfactory answer about why he had this in his possession.
