Five caught stealing cables at Boksburg depot
The suspects, four men and a woman, are facing malicious damage to infrastructure, theft, possession of stolen property and possession of dangerous weapon charges.

The City of Ekurhuleni calls on the justice system to harshly sentence five suspects found stealing electricity cables at the metro’s Energy Department depot in Boksburg, on February 8.
According to the metro spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, the EMPD’s Anti-Cable Theft unit officers swiftly responded to a call of theft of essential electricity supply infrastructure at the depot.
“The suspects fled the scene when they noticed the approaching officers, but they were later arrested in possession of a 12-metre long copper cable, weighing 240kg, with the street value of R28 800. They were also found in possession of a toy gun,” explained Dlamini.
The five suspects, four men and a woman, were detained at Boksburg North SAPS, and they are facing malicious damage to infrastructure, theft, possession of stolen property and possession of dangerous weapon charges.
They are scheduled to appear at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
