Court in Brief
The following cases were finalised in the Boksburg/Vosloorus magistrate’s courts:

Robbery with aggravating circumstances
• Bongumusa Ngcamu of Astonville hostel was sentenced to 19 years behind bars for robbery with aggravating circumstances and declared unfit to possess a firearm on January 11.
The 23-year-old pleaded not guilty on October 26 and was found guilty on December 14.
On January 21 last year, Ngcamu robbed a man at gunpoint of a Toyota Tazz, a wallet, a cellphone and R800 in Villa Liza.
Magistrate Harichand presided and Prosecutor Mbonani represented the State.
• Neo Gift Hleza (29) from Vosloorus was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on January 30 for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Hleza pleaded guilty and was found guilty on November 24.
On January 9, he robbed a person at gunpoint of his cellphones and other items in Vosloorus.
Magistrate Harichand presided and Prosecutor Mnyandu represented the State.
Explosives
On March 15, a 28-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for being in possession of explosives.
Mlando Ndwandwe pleaded guilty and was found guilty on January 18.
On September 6, 2016, he was found with three blasting cartridges and five electrical detonators without being the holder of a licence granted under the regulations.
Magistrate Harichand presided and Prosecutor Mbonani represented the State.
Theft
• On March 17, Evens Monyela (45) from Windmill Park was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for theft, wholly suspended for five years.
Monyela pleaded guilty and was found guilty on March 17.
On January 23, he stole stainless steel items valued at about R11 000 from Vital Engineering.
Magistrate Havenga presided and Prosecutor Lingani represented the State.
• Kamohelo Tau (34) and Ntabiseng Rakgarebe (30) from Soweto were sentenced for theft on March 7.
They pleaded not guilty on March 2 and were found guilty on March 7.
They stole items such as moisturisers, cartridges and blades valued at about R3 800 from Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket on November 2.
Tau was sentenced to two years imprisonment and Rakgarebe to 18 months. They were declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Contravention of the Immigration Act
• Arlindo Hlungoane (36) from Thembisa was sentenced to three months imprisonment, of which two months were suspended for three years, on March 3 for being in the country without valid documentation.
The Mozambican pleaded guilty and was found guilty on March 3.
He was arrested on February 23.
It is ordered that Hlungoane will be deported upon completion of his sentence.
Magistrate Viviers presided, and Prosecutor Kuhela represented the State.
• Stover Chibasi (23) from Angelo was sentenced to three months imprisonment, of which two months were suspended for three years, on March 15 for being in the country illegally.
The Malawian pleaded guilty and was found guilty on March 15.
He was arrested on February 24.
It is ordered that Chibasi will be deported upon completion of his sentence.

Receiving stolen property
Rodney Whittaker (32) from Reiger Park was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, of which 12 months were suspended for five years, on March 14 for receiving stolen property.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on March 14.
On 21 November 2022, Whittaker took possession of a gas bottle valued at R700.

Malicious damage to property
Ganezana Chamvulla Banda (31) from Comet was found guilty of malicious damage to property and contravening the Immigration Act on March 10 and pleaded guilty on the same day.
On November 5, Chamvulla damaged a man’s motor vehicle in Boksburg. It was also discovered he was in the country illegally.
He was sentenced to a R3 000 fine or six months in prison for count one (malicious damage to property) and 60 days behind bars for count two (contravention of the Immigration Act). He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
His deportation was ordered after paying the fine or serving time.
