NPO, SAPS seek divine intervention on crime

Gender-based violence continues to be a problem in Reiger Park.

Lieutenant Colonel Bongani Dube, the Reiger Park SAPS station commander, is determined to fight crime in the area.

He said this during a gender-based violence (GBV) prayer session hosted by Thusang Community Development in partnership with Reiger Park police and the CPF on May 30.

According to Dube, the police can only fight crime and GBV with the community’s help.

“The war we are fighting is not easy. That is why we are mobilising the community to work with us. I’m happy with the community’s response to our commitment to combat crime. I don’t have a shadow of a doubt that we will win the fight.

“Let us all sell this idea of fighting GBV and other crimes to all community members who are not here today,” said Dube.

The founder of Thusang Community Development, Sergeant Lufuno Mudzuli, said they held the prayer meeting to pray for divine intervention in the fight against crime in Reiger Park.

“We feel the problems in our area need spiritual intervention. We can’t fight them physically, so we held this prayer session.

“Abuse and murders are prevalent in our area, and we want to change this. Crime is escalating because victims and eyewitnesses are not speaking out, not because the police are not doing their job,” said Mudzuli.
