Car dealership targeted twice in one week

Police are urging the community to provide information about the incidents.

Criminals targeted a car dealership on the corner of Cason Road and 15th Avenue, Boksburg North, twice in one week, with the two separate incidents taking place on March 19 and March 22.

Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu said the first incident occurred at about 12:30 on March 19, when the robbers hijacked a staff member.

“Two men entered the store pretending to be customers and requested to test drive a vehicle,“ he explained.

“While taking the white BMW for a test drive, the men threatened the staff member in the car with them with a firearm near Dunswart, before abandoning him in Lilianton. The car was later recovered in Elspark.”

Police are investigating charges of hijacking and kidnapping.

In the second incident, about 11 suspects robbed the same dealership on March 22 at around 12:30.

“It is alleged that three men entered the dealership, holding staff and customers at gunpoint. More robbers joined them, driving out the vehicles one by one,” Mngomezulu said.

The robbers made off with seven vehicles from the dealership, including a Mercedes-Benz, VW Polo, and a double-cab bakkie.
In addition, they stole a customer’s vehicle and several personal belongings, including cell phones. One of the stolen vehicles was later recovered in Soweto.

Police are investigating the possibility that the two incidents are linked.

Anybody with information about the suspects should contact Boksburg North Police Station on 011 960 0100 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

The dealership has declined to comment on the incidents.
