Evan Swanson (75), the man accused of killing his neighbour, Klaas du Toit (37), in Impala Park, wants to move back home.
Du Toit was shot and killed outside Swanson’s house on August 18, 2023, in an incident Swanson previously told the court was an act of self-defence.
Swanson reappeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on October 16, requesting that his bail conditions be amended because he wants to return home.
The matter was postponed to October 29, while his trial will likely start on February 27, 2026.

The Boksburg Advertiser previously reported that Swanson was granted bail of R5 000 on September 4, 2023, on the condition that he reside with his daughter in Edenvale until the case is finalised. He was also required to report to the Edenvale SAPS every Friday.
On March 11, last year, Magistrate Nomalanga Mqambeli ruled that Swanson cannot move back to or visit his Impala Park residence. The magistrate relaxed his reporting conditions, requiring him to report to the Edenvale SAPS only every second Friday.

Meanwhile, Du Toit’s mother, Magda Potgieter, said the family continues to endure emotional pain.
“It’s still traumatic. As Klasie’s mother, I couldn’t say goodbye to my child before he died. I wasn’t there when he took his last breath, I wasn’t there to hold him one last time, and I wasn’t there to tell him how much I love him.
“I still relive that phone call every day: ‘Klasie has been shot dead’. Every day, I go through emotional hell. We are struggling to come to terms with Klasie’s death. Our family’s lives have been shattered forever and filled with sorrow and longing.”
