Manhunt launched after fatal shooting at shopping centre
Police are appealing to anybody with information to come forward.
A group of unidentified gunmen opened fire at The Square Shopping Centre on Rietfontein Road, killing one man and injuring two others, on December 4.
The SAPS is investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
According to Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu, three unknown men opened fire on the occupants of a Toyota Fortuner in the centre’s parking area at 19:10.
“A 31-year-old man shot in the upper body died on the scene. The two injured men were transported to the hospital,” he said.

At the time of publication, Mngomezulu said no additional information was available about the injured men.
He did, however, confirm that several cartridges were recovered at the scene and that the shooting is believed to be linked to taxi violence.
“It is alleged that the victims are from the Benoni Taxi Association,” said Mngomezulu.
The gunmen were on foot when they ambushed the victims.
Investigations continue, and the police have launched a manhunt.

A source within the Benoni Taxi Association said the association was unaware of the incident.
An employee at one of the shopping centre’s stores, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was shocked by the shooting.
“I heard multiple gunshots. It was chaotic after that. Everybody screamed and ran to find shelter. I didn’t know if there was a robbery or what was going on. I just heard the shots and tried to keep safe,” she said.
