The Urban Ruins Project NPO in Plantation is launching a training centre dedicated to equipping job seekers with essential skills in January 2025.

“The centre will provide a selection of tailored courses, including a business ethics course, a sales course and a basic admin and computer course.

Viljoen said candidates will pay R700 for the training and job placement services in an effort to make the programme both accessible and sustainable

“Once placed in employment, the participating companies will be encouraged to sponsor future candidates by contributing R1,400 per successful placement.

“This sponsorship model is designed to support individuals who may not be able to afford the initial R700 fee, ensuring that the programme reaches those most in need.

He went on to say that there will be qualified facilitators who will lead the courses, which will culminate in an exam requiring a minimum pass rate of 65%.

“This rigorous structure ensures that participants are well-prepared to enter the workforce with confidence.

“The programme will also collaborate with other NPOs to expand its reach and impact,” he added.

Viljoen emphasised that their approach is to first profile each learner to understand their strengths and weaknesses.

“This enables us to effectively market their skills to potential employers.”

He said The training centre will be located on the NPO’s premises.

“To fully operationalise the project, we are seeking donations of tables, chairs and computers, whether new or second-hand.”

Kick-off in January 2025

The first course will begin in January 2025, marking a significant milestone for Urban Ruins.

“This is more than just a training centre; it’s a stepping stone to a brighter future for many,” Viljoen emphasised.

Urban Ruins invites the community to support this initiative by donating resources or sponsoring a candidate. For more information contact Viljoen on 081 747 0833.
