Local schools clean up the Boksburg Stadium

The schools wanted the stadium to be in a good condition for the Gauteng Athletics

Laerskool Concordia, Van Dyk Park Primary School and Parkdene Primary School recently joined hands to clean the Boksburg Stadium.

This initiative was done to get the stadium ready for the Gauteng Athletics Championships, which took place on March 8 and 9.

Charel Blignaut, principal of Laerskool Concordia, explained the schools noted the bad condition of the stadium and sent groundsmen to clean the facility.

The workers picked up litter and cut the overgrown grass with the school’s equipment.

“We decided to do something because we didn’t want to be ashamed of stadium when people from all over Gauteng visit for the tournament. During this clean-up, we realised that we can do wonders if we work together,” said Blignaut.

Van Dyk Park Primary School principal Frans Spang explained it took them 07:00 till 15:00 to clean up the stadium.

“We did what we did for the children.”

Parkdene Primary School deputy principal Harm Venter said he noted a lot of broken equipment as a result of mismanagement.
