The Ekurhuleni South District Circuit 5 honoured outstanding teachers who achieved a 100% pass rate in their subjects for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.
The awards ceremony at Laerskool Concordia on May 16 celebrated excellence in education and acknowledged the hard work and dedication of teachers vital to the success of the Class of 2024.
Teachers from schools in and around Boksburg received recognition for their exceptional commitment to academic excellence. Currently ranked third, Circuit 5 aims to become the top circuit in the South District.
Bafana Fatyela, the cluster leader from the Department of Education, delivered the keynote address, commending educators on their achievements.
“We are here to celebrate your accomplishments in the 2024 NSC results. Some educators are represented in more than one subject, something to be proud of. These awards are recognition and motivation to push yourselves further. You serve as role models within and beyond your schools.”
Fatyela emphasised that the awards were meant to encourage collaboration among teachers and the sharing of best practices across schools.
“This is an opportunity to exchange ideas, grow together and inspire each other. We want to see continued 100% results and stronger qualitative outcomes in teaching and learning.”
He reminded educators that these achievements were not for individual recognition only, but a call to contribute to the broader educational landscape by uplifting others and improving the standard of education in the district.
Ekurhuleni South District Circuit manager Mxolisi Madotjeni echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of early academic intervention.

“Success in Grade 12 doesn’t start in the final year. We must prepare learners from early grades so the foundation is strong by the time they reach matric.”
He used a powerful metaphor to highlight the dedication of teachers: “A teacher is like a candle that consumes itself to light the way for others. Your hard work is the light that guides your learners. Let us light each other’s candles so the whole room can shine brighter.”
The ceremony concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and unity among educators. It served as recognition of outstanding work in the 2024 NSC exams and a platform for inspiration and collaboration moving forward.
