Stadium upgrade on track, says EMM
Upgrading on the Boksburg City Stadium’s track is well underway and in full swing.
The arena’s athletic turf is getting a face-lift that will see it meet International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) standards.
The stadium’s field items, like the shot put area, are also being upgraded.
The stadium was closed several months ago for all users under health and safety legislation and is scheduled to reopen in November.
Concerns about the venue’s overall condition have been raised by the community amidst the work currently being undertaken at the stadium, with security topping the list.

According to Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson, much has been done to increase the number of security personnel at the stadium and in trying to improve security levels, including tighter access control at the main gate.
He was reacting to concerns raised by the public over vandalism at the stadium.
Gadebe said it has become very expensive to do continual repairs on the sport fields due to constant vandalism and theft of electrical cables, especially on the outer fields of the main stadium.
“According to the municipal maintenance plan, repairs to the seating stand will be done this financial year.
“Maintenance and cleaning of the stadium follows a particular programme; broken bottles or any other dirt is removed during that process. Also note that cleaning of fields or tracks is done before hosting of events.”
