Family robbed at roadside

A family of five were robbed at gunpoint near Sallies Village on Saturday night, last week, after they were stranded on the side of the road with a flat tyre.

Two sisters, aged 35 and 41, their father (75), mother (60) and a female cousin (42) were forced to pull over along Second Road, near the Mkhankwa Informal Settlement, at about 6.40pm, because of a puncture.

They were travelling in the 35-year-old woman’s white Range Rover Sport.

According to police reports, the family had contacted roadside assistance and were waiting for help, when two men, one of whom was armed with a gun, confronted them.

They forced the family to open the car doors and demanded their belongings.

The robbers took goods worth R12 000, including two cellphones, reading spectacles, sunglasses and a handbag.

The family told police the robbers had walked past them earlier when they had first stopped the car.

A case of robbery with a firearm is being investigated.
