Metro unleashes Peace Corps

With the unleashing of the new Peace Corps, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is gearing up to make the City safe during the festive Season.

The 750 men and women in the green uniform (Peace Corps) will assist in the city’s crime prevention, bylaw enforcement and social crime prevention efforts.

The Peace Corps will also assist in reporting service delivery problems like power outages, and water and sewer pipe bursts as and when they get exposed to such.

According to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s executive mayor, Clr Mondi Gungubele, with the festive season already here, there would not have been a better time to unleash these members to the streets of Ekurhuleni.

“We all know that while the festive season is seen unequivocally as a time for relaxation and celebration of a year that was, it has also become one of the most notorious periods for crime in the country,” he said.

“As communities celebrate in peace thugs prowl our streets looking for the nearest target to attack.”

According to Gungubele, in order to make Ekurhuleni a safer place to stay, live and play, the City of Ekurhuleni is always looking at various interventions to bring peace and stability in the area.
