Ekurhuleni Carnival dazzles the masses

Rhythm and colour livened up the streets of Tsakane and Kwa-Thema on Saturday, last week, when carnival troupes from across the City of Ekurhuleni participated in the 10th annual Ekurhuleni Carnival.

Not even the dry scorching weather could deter the troupe’s high spirits as they danced and sang joyously throughout the seven kilometers distance.

The Ekurhuleni Carnival kicked off at Langaville Secondary School in Tsakane and ended on a high note at Bulithando Park in Kwa-Thema.

Onlookers took photos, clapped hands and danced along to the routines rendered by the  carnival procession.

The main objective of the Ekurhuleni Carnival is to support entrepreneurs in the art industry.

“The carnival is a brilliant platform to get exposure as an artist, as well as an opportunity to make money as we make a living through the arts,” said Ignition TLK, a performing artist from Kwa-Thema and this year’s chief carnival choreographer.

The event culminated with various artists of different genres taking turns on stage entertaining the audience with some more song and dance.

“The reason why the City of Ekurhuleni continues to support the carnival is solely because we view it as an investment to what could be someone’s career tomorrow,” said Member of Mayoral Committee for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Clr Zeni Tshongweni.
