Basics of safe electricity usage
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), in partnership with energy utility Eskom, are on a drive to educate communities about the basics of safe electricity usage, as part of the National Electricity Safety Week.

Ekurhuleni residents will be educated on safe electricity usage and the risks of electricity theft, including meter tampering, by-passing and illegal connections.
“Recently, a 10-year-old boy died due to illegal connections and this is, unfortunately, a regular occurrence where innocent lives are lost as a consequence of the unsafe use of electricity.” said the metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
“It is a fact that electricity is dangerous, particularly when connections are made irregularly and Ekurhuleni residents need to be educated about this reality. One fatality as a result of the unsafe use of electricity is one too many,” added Gadebe.
The EMM and officials from Eskom will be giving talks and distributing promotional items on Friday, August 21, at the Thuthukane Primary School, Tsakane.
