Jasmin-Lee will never be forgotten

The unthinkable story of how she was raped and suffocated by her uncle Sarel du Toit unfolded over the past two years.

Today, two years ago, residents of Brakpan were shocked and overcome with anger when it became known that a four-year old blond girl was brutally raped and murdered by her uncle.

The body of little Jasmin-Lee Pretorius was found under a bed in the home of her father, Morné Pretorius, in Suenet Flats, on Saturday, December 28, 2013.

She had been reported missing earlier that day.

Jasmin-Lee, who lived with her mother, Sasha Lee Bam, in Kempton Park, was picked up by Morné the previous day, to spend the weekend with him.

The unthinkable story of how she was raped and suffocated by her uncle Sarel du Toit unfolded over the past two years.

The incident sparked an outcry and saw many angry people wanting to take the law into their own hands.

Du Toit was sent for mental observation and eventually stood trial in the Pretoria High Court in November this year.

On November 13, 2015 he was handed a double life sentence.

Du Toit pleaded guilty on charges of murder and rape on Monday, November 9, 2015

Sentencing Du Toit, Judge Mahomed Ismail described what Du Toit did as evil, horrendous and lacking any human compassion.

Du Toit admitted that he had fetched the little girl from her room and then raped and strangled her to stop her from making any noise.

He then hid her body under his bed and denied any knowledge of her whereabouts for hours while her family frantically searched for her.
