Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A motorist was threatened at gunpoint by the driver of a silver Hyundai at the corner of Heidelberg Road (R23) and Beechwood Street in Dalpark.

The victim told police he was travelling from Benoni at about 5.20pm when the Hyundai sped up behind him with its lights flashing, indicating for him to move out of the way.

The victim was unable to safely change lanes and the Hyundai driver continued to speed up, eventually overtaking him.

As he drove past, the Hyundai driver pointed a gun at the victim and threatened to shoot him.

A case in terms of the Act Regulating Arms and Ammunition is under investigation.

* A Brakpan man was robbed after withdrawing a large sum of cash from a bank in Springs.

Returning from the bank, the victim arrived at his Cavendish Street address around midday and was attacked by two men as he made his way inside his home.

The robbers pointed guns at the victim and searched him, taking the money.

They fled in a white Mercedes-Benz and police suspect the victim was followed home from the bank.

A case of armed robbery is being investigated.

* A TV was stolen during a burglary at a Station Road residence.

* Two cases of motor vehicle/motor cycle theft were reported – a Fiat Uno was stolen from Voortrekker Road and a red Honda motorbike was stolen from Taft Street.

* A car parked at an address along Eufees Street in Dalview was broken into and a laptop was stolen.

• Saturday – Tools were stolen from a property in Van Dyk Road, Rand Collieries.

* The female driver of a silver Opel Corsa was robbed of her vehicle at the corner of Dirk van der Hoff Street and Denne Road in Rand Collieries.

While stationary at a stop sign at around 11pm, the victim was pulled from her car by a man.

She was told to lie on the ground and the hijacker drove off in her car.

* Brakpan police were called to the Pholosong Hospital in Tsakane at 9.45pm after a stabbing victim died.

It is alleged the man was stabbed earlier that evening following an argument.

The incident is believed to have taken place at an address along Second Road in Witpoort Estates.

A murder docket was opened.

* Wheels were stolen from a bakkie in Mossie Crescent, Denneoord.

• Sunday – A woman was robbed by two men at the corner of Wenden Avenue and High Street.

The victim was walking home at about 4.20am when she was attacked by the pair.

They assaulted her and ran off with her cellphone.

* Two homes were burgled.

A TV was stolen from an address along Hamilton Avenue while jewellery, bedding, a DVD player and TV were stolen from a home in Privet Avenue, Leachville.

Other cases reported:

• Thursday – Cigarettes, cash and digital video recorders were stolen during a break-in at a business in Hendrik Potgieter Road, Dalview.

* A bakkie parked along Waterval Road in Leachville was stripped of its wheels.
