New Brakpan SAPS station commander is ready to serve

The brigadier has pledged to work with the community.

Brakpan SAPS recently welcomed new station commander Brigadier Johanna Mehloti Ngoma into the fold.

Ngoma, who believes policing is a calling that requires passion, has taken over the reins from interim station commander Colonel Eugene Scheepers.

Scheepers, who joined the station as the detective branch commander in March last year, has been the acting commander since July following the retirement of Brigadier Fredl Jonck.

Brakpan’s new top cop has 29 years of policing experience under her belt, and graduated from the Tshwane SAPS Academy in 1995 as a constable.

She started her leadership role as a captain at Kempton Park SAPS where she led the Flash Unit (Firearms, Liquor and Second-Hand Goods) and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 2006.

Ngoma’s extended leadership skills and experience were gained from holding positions as provincial inspectorate in 2009, as an IMC (Information Management Centre) commander, and then Vispol commander at Kempton Park SAPS.

In 2017, Ngoma was appointed as the station commander of Rabie Ridge SAPS, where she served for seven years. Ngoma was promoted to the rank of brigadier on November 1, and officially joined the Brakpan SAPS on December 2.

Described as God-fearing and enthusiastically positive, Ngoma cited that throughout her years in the SAPS, she has learned that no challenge is too big to overcome.

The brigadier declared that one of her roles is to mentor young women and men in blue. Ngoma intends to continue the legacy left by Jonck by maintaining good relations with stakeholders and winning the community’s trust in the SAPS.

She is also confident in the strong team at Brakpan SAPS and is certain they will be victorious against crime. Ngoma added she has faith in working together and not in isolation.
