WATCH: SAPS and stakeholders pray over crime hotspots

Chaplains, pastors and members of various law enforcement agencies attended the outreach.

Brakpan SAPS and several stakeholders held a prayer outreach on April 16 across town in preparation for the Easter weekend.

The group stopped by several crime hotspots to pray and sing worship songs. SAPS and EMPD members with pastors, chaplains, and the CPF attended the outreach.

The first stop was the intersection between the Heidelberg and Airport roads, near the Mall@Carnival. The traffic light at this crossing has been broken for several months, leading to many accidents.

It’s also on the R23, Heidelberg Road, where many hijackings occur. The group prayed over the road and crossing to hand over the protection of this road to God during the Easter holidays.

The next stop was Victoria and Wenden avenues, where high numbers of domestic violence, drug-related crimes and kidnappings occur.

The group marched the streets singing worship songs, before praying over the streets again.

The final stop before the group returned to the police station was the Anzac circle near Plastic City informal settlement. The area is a known hotspot for hijackings, robbery, illegal mining and illegal connections.

After returning to the station, station commander Brigadier Johanna Ngoma prayed as well, before thanking all the stakeholders involved.
