Hijackers strike again at Dalpark intersection, kidnap meat delivery crew

Two delivery workers were held captive after being hijacked at a Dalpark traffic light, the second such attack at the same intersection in just weeks.

The driver and passenger of a bakkie transporting meat for delivery fell victim to hijackers in Brakpan on Wednesday
Police information reveals the delivery workers, travelling in a company-owned white Isuzu bakkie, had earlier made deliveries in Germiston and Dalpark, and were en route to their last delivery in Benoni at around 14:30 when the hijackers struck.

While stationary at a red traffic light at the intersection of Rangeview Road and Airport Drive, a man appeared at the driver’s side window and accused the driver of driving recklessly.

Another man, armed with a gun, then opened the passenger door and instructed the passenger to move to the middle.

The gunman directed the driver to an open veld in an unidentified area and told him to pull over. The victims were forced out of the bakkie and into a white Volkswagen Polo. Their faces were covered.

While inside the Polo, the hijackers told them they don’t want to hurt the victims. They added that they were waiting for the bakkie’s tracking device to be removed.

They were driven to an unknown location and let go. When they got out of the Polo, the hijackers told them not to look back.

The victims walked to a nearby petrol station where they sought help, and a supervisor from their company came to fetch them.

Cases of hijacking and kidnapping were opened at Brakpan SAPS. This incident is reminiscent of a hijacking on May 23 in which a truck driver and his passenger were held captive for hours after being hijacked at the same intersection.

A lone gunman climbed into the white Hino truck in which they were travelling at around 09:30 while the truck was stationary at the traffic lights.

The hijacker threatened the victims with the weapon and instructed the driver to continue driving. The hijacker directed the driver, and his passenger was blindfolded.

They drove to a secluded bushy area where they were met by five men in an unidentified white car. The victims were dragged out of the truck and forced in the car.

They were taken to an unknown area and kept there for two to three hours. Both were searched and robbed of their cellphones.

The victims were then driven to a different location where they were told to lie on the ground and their hands were tied. The hijackers left them there, and the pair managed to untie themselves.
