Brakpan SAPS Employee Health and Wellness celebrate fathers
Men were screened and presented with their healthcare options.
Brakpan SAPS Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) treated the men of the station like kings on July 4, with a “smart black” dress code and red carpet entrance in Withok.
At the event, SAPS medical aid scheme POLMED offered their medical screening services to the SAPS members, which included blood pressure, sugar levels, BMI, HIV/Aids, hearing and physical fitness tests.
EHW chaplain Captain Godfrey Booysen opened the event with a short sermon, raising points on how fathers fail to train successors, creating boys that are addicts who blame absent fathers.
He encouraged the men to support each other and said that fathers need to teach their children that everything happens by God’s grace.

Captain Sara Mushaniki, the EHW psychologist, announced the purpose of the event was to honour the SAPS fathers and appreciate them.
She explained that the event was to provide the fathers the space to sit and have dialogue on matters affecting them personally and professionally.
She encouraged the men to empower one another. A representative from Old Mutual thanked the organisers of the event and told the men about the importance thereof.

Mushaniki cited childhood trauma as a cause of stress and depression, and encouraged the men to use POLMED and consult professionals.
Prostate cancer was also explained and discussed among the men, and EHW Captain Jongo from Germiston gave a motivational sermon.
“He reminded the men that there are better options than taking their own lives. He said that by supporting brotherhood, the men can live beyond crisis, and discouraged inferiority complexes in men,” said Brakpan SAPS corporate communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi.
“No bad condition remains forever, and men should allow themselves to be listened to. Be providers, protectors and priests in the household,” Jongo explained.
