Ekurhuleni residents are urged to save water, report water loss
Water usage and supply looks good, but Ekurhuleni urges residents to keep it that way.
The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) urges all its residents to adopt water-saving practices to help ensure a sustainable and reliable supply for everyone.
Seasonal factors, such as the warmer spring temperatures, typically increase the demand for water. This could undermine the significant progress the city has made in effective water management.
In July 2025, the city’s non-revenue water (NRW) decreased by 1.38% compared to July 2024. This reduction indicates improved use of water.
Water sales also grew in July 2025, with residents and businesses consuming 262.9 million kl of billed, metered water, an increase of 6.88 million kl compared to July 2024.
Additionally, the total volume of water supplied into the system (system input volume) rose to 370 million kl in July 2025, up from 367 million kl in the same month last year.

These figures highlight the success of the city’s efforts to reduce water loss, improve efficiency, and deliver greater volumes of water to the community.
Overall, these positive results underscore the CoE’s commitment to water conservation and sustainable water management.
The city is reducing water losses through effective billing and revenue collection, as well as by replacing ageing pipes that frequently burst.
The city also replaces dysfunctional bulk and customer water meters timeously, so that water flows can be measured accurately to determine the locations of the losses.
As the water demand rises with the warmer months ahead, the city calls on residents to continue using water responsibly and sparingly.
