Two women robbed and one shot in Leachville after accepting lift

What started as a search for a lost phone ended in gunfire. One woman was shot in the thigh after being robbed by two men who pretended they wanted to help.

Two women were attacked on New Kleinfontein Road in Leachville during the early morning hours of October 19 after accepting a lift from two men.

One of the victims was shot in the thigh after refusing to hand over her bank card PINs. According to SAPS information, an officer on duty received a report of the shooting at about 02:00, and proceeded to the scene.

Upon arrival, he found members of a private security company, along with two women, aged 30 and 43. The younger of the two had sustained a gunshot wound to her right thigh.

The victims told police they had been at a tavern in Wattville, Benoni earlier that evening. After one of them lost her cellphone, they used a mobile app in an attempt to find it. While outside searching for the device, they were approached by two men travelling in a white Toyota Avanza.
