Woman arrested after 18 months on the run for Brakpan North murder

After months of investigation, local detectives arrested a woman accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend and fleeing.

A woman wanted by police in connection with a murder case has been apprehended after more than a year on the run.

According to Constable Audrey Buthelezi, Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer, the woman (36) is accused of stabbing and killing her boyfriend in the Magaleni informal settlement in Brakpan North on August 1, 2024.

It is reported the victim was found lying on a mattress in a shack, his face covered with a blanket, with a visible open wound on the right side of his neck.

“The female suspect had since disappeared. The murder case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Thobile Zulu, and after a thorough investigation, the police received information on February 20 about the female suspect’s whereabouts,” said Buthelezi.

“Detective Sergeant Tuka Gavade mobilised backup and, on the morning of February 21, the suspect was traced and apprehended.

“She was arrested and detained at the Brakpan Police Station. She made her first court appearance on February 23 and remains in custody.”

Local SAPS Detective Branch commander Colonel Eugene Scheepers applauded the detectives’ outstanding work and dedication to serving justice to victims of crime.

Other role players who assisted in effecting the arrest were Secure Tech Security, CP Security and Graphite Security.
