Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from January 24 to 26.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A home in Pythian Street, Sherwood Gardens, was burgled of a TV, a cellphone, personal documents and clothes.
Entrance was gained through a window in the living room, and the intruder/s bent open the burglar bars.
The value of the stolen items is R25 000.
• A man was arrested after a motorbike was stolen from an address along Park Street.
The yellow Big Boy was stolen some time after 21:00.
The bike’s owner was notified of the theft just before midnight by a security guard who reported seeing three men pushing the bike down the street.
With information on the direction in which the thieves had fled with the bike, the owner and some friends set off in pursuit.
When they reached Kingsway Avenue, they were met by CPF members who had recovered the bike.
Two of the thieves managed to evade capture.
Saturday – A white Toyota Prada was stolen from Craigholm Street in Dalview.
• A man was shot when he attempted to fight off three assailants during a robbery.
The incident took place in the Mgongo informal settlement along Location Road in Sherwood Gardens.
Police were notified of the shooting at 21:44 and an officer proceeded to the scene.
Upon his arrival, he was told the victim has been taken by ambulance to the Far East Rand Hospital.
The officer then went to the hospital, where the victim reported that he had been mugged by three men wearing balaclavas.
He further told the officer that when he tried to fight off his attackers, one of the men fired a shot at him, hitting him in the leg.
It was not disclosed what was stolen from the victim.
An attempted murder docket was opened.
