EMPD should focus on reckless drivers

Brakpan resident writes: I note the Brakpan Metro are extremely proud of their speed trapping escapades, usually in the early morning over weekends, when traffic volumes are low.

I travel the Heidelberg Road to work and back every day and, as traffic is relatively heavy in the peak hours, actually exceeding the speed limit is very limited.

What we do have, however, is a huge number of reckless and negligent drivers who break every other law in the book, but never a traffic cop in sight.

Along this road, which crosses all the death robots around the Carnival City area, are stop streets and many turning lanes to cut in front of the traffic.

The red traffic lights are ignored at the large intersection and even the sand verge on the side of the road is used to jump the queues.

These drivers are nothing but hooligans on our roads, and surely their offences are as bad, if not worse than speeding motorists.

I seldom find a speeding motorist, especially a motorcycle, being an inconvenience to me, however, the other offences are certainly an inconvenience and a source of severe irritation.

Could our Metro Police please let us know how many of these offenders were arrested for their reckless and negligent if not inconsiderate driving?

But then again, I won’t hold my breath as the above requires a lot of effort and is not nearly as lucrative, and we all know that taxis are not bound by the same traffic laws, as they are allowed to do as they please.
