Metro comments

The Herald has received comment from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality pertaining to the letter titled "Eye on the metro: poor service delivery".

Media officer Lebogang Ramashala responded as follows:

According to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s Finance database, the active properties related to stand 531 in Brakpan are stand 531 (which must be de-activated after the sub-division) and portion one of 531.

The water meter connection application was done for stand 531, however it cannot be processed on the basis that there is an existing connection.

The Finance Department (Property Rates) has been notified that they need to create R/531 and transfer this application to the newly created portion so that the connection can be done.

They have given an indication that once the system is up and running again, then they will sort it out.

We will only be able to provide a water connection once the property that requires a connection has been created and the application has been transferred to the relevant property (this information was shared with the consumer).

Water bills in the absence of a water meter — this is a normal practice where all serviced stands without a water connection are billed for the availability of the service.
