Communication is vital in the fight against crime

Ken Appelcryn from Minnebron writes: Over the years I have found that it pays to communicate with your neighbour, neighbourhood watch, the SAPS or the staff of your security company, especially when you are not at home.

It is vital for others to know who to contact when things are going wrong or are out of the usual order.

Make sure that you give your number to a reliable, trustworthy source, who will be able to contact you 24/7 in any event.

There is no use driving around in an area trying to prevent crime, when you cannot confirm whether the person/s currently on the premises are, in fact, the legal occupants of the house or not.

Being part of some sort of organised crime-fighting body, such as a neighbourhood watch, or even joining a security company, can make a big difference in terms of saving lives and safe-guarding property.
