Metro treats us with contempt

Amos Phiri from Dalpark Extension 11 writes: I have tried the whole night (February 5) to get the Ekurhuleni Municipality to come and fix a sewer pipe that is flooding my property, to no avail.

My house is stinking like hell with raw sewage water.

Come and witness how the municipality is treating us — there is no sense of urgency at all.

Editor’s note: Comment was requested from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, and the following response was received from spokesperson Themba Gadebe: ”Ekurhuleni metro officials opened the blockage on February 5, at midnight.

“The first jetting truck was too small for the blockage; therefore arrangements to gather a number of big combination units, to open it, were made.

“This is an Erwat outfall line coming all the way from Wattville to the Vlakplaas Treatment Works.

“The clean-up will be done by Erwat.

“The huge problem is a result of illegal miners around that part of the line.

“They are the ones who are blocking the sewer line, and then the residents and the municipality have a problem.

“The area needs to be constantly monitored, so that the line can be kept running.”
