Enough is enough now.
We’ve been living in Brenthurst for a couple of years now and I’ve never seen people speeding more in any other area than in Brenthurst.
Prince George Avenue is like a 160km/h zone and the back roads, especially Joubert Street, have become a racetrack and speedway.
Prince George Avenue in the mornings has become just as bad with people being late, impatient or those who just like putting other people in danger with their speeding.
As it is, Prince George Avenue is a narrow street, yet people believe that it’s a speedway.
In our area we still have people walking the streets for exercise, walking to the shops, kids riding their bicycles and other motorists.
In Joubert Street, there are two cross roads that are constantly ignored – the corner of Roger and Joubert streets, and the corner of Thomas and Joubert streets.
There are clear stop signs – these speeding people actually gear down to get more speed over the stop street.
The metro police officers usually have cameras and speed traps for the motorists speeding in Prince George Avenue.
On several different occasions I have personally walked to them and asked for their assistance with the motorists speeding in the area, but without luck.
There was an incident about three weeks ago, where a motorist sped off at the stop street (corner Joubert and Roger streets) leaving tyre marks in the road.
At the same time there was a woman walking in the street with a little girl of about four years old and a baby in a pram.
What if the driver lost control of the vehicle?
What would have happened to those children and their mother?
