Brakpan lies in ruins

Surely someone must be held accountable?

Cynthia Scrooby writes by email:

Brakpan is filthy.

The pavements are overgrown with weeds and there is litter strewn all over the place.

Brakpan Central is overrun with huge rates and is infested with flies.

The cemetery is an utter disgrace – the weeds are meters tall.

Even in some of the suburbs one can no longer sit outdoors because of the flies attracted to rubbish being dumped all over the place.

Electrical substations and meter boxes are without doors all over the town.

At the corner of Park Street and Hastings Avenue, a child was seen with his head inside the meter box, and fortunately someone stopped and told him to go away.

Must a child die before something gets done?

Street lights burn 24/7 while the country is in the midst of a power crisis.

The bus service from Geluksdal to Brenthurst is virtually non-existent and domestic workers are forced to pay extra for taxi fares or run the risk of losing their employment.

Surely someone must be held accountable?

Where are our councillors, why are they turning a blind eye to this mess?
