From Britstown to Brakpan

The weekend saw the Brakpan Pigeon Club’s birds taking off from Britstown, 673km away from home.

The birds were liberated at 7.15am, with sunny skies and a light north-easterly (NE) wind.

The first young bird home belonged to Andre Smit (flying as Smit Family), whose bird was clocked at 2.28.31pm with a velocity of 1 565.234mpm, while the second and third places went to Cyril Jaspers, whose birds were timed at 2.26.53pm (1 550.409mpm) and 2.26.54pm (1 550.349mpm).

Tevis Beuked took fourth place when his bird was timed at 2.35.16pm, with a speed of 1 547.159mpm.

The club’s open birds were liberated at 8am and the first bird back belonged to Frik Smith (flying as Candy Lofts).

His bird was timed at 3.04.10pm, at a speed of 1 589.804mpm.

Piet Gerber claimed second place when his bird clocked in at 3.13.30pm, at a speed of 1 568.986mpm, while Hannes van der Nest took third place when his bird clocked in at 3.14.45pm, with a velocity of 1 566.605mpm.
