Brakpan get advantage of an extra week

The fixtures for the South African Rugby Union’s (Saru) Gold Cup, the elite community club rugby tournament in southern Africa, have been finalised.

While the tournament kicks-off on Friday at Boland Park in Worcester, Siyaya Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV will have to wait a week before they host Western Province champions DirectAxis False Bay at the Bosman Stadium on Saturday, September 17, in Pool C.

This match will be played at 3.30pm.

A week later (Saturday, September 24) and the “Panne” will be at Kings Park, Durban for another tough encounter versus SA Home Loans Durban Collegians, also at 3.30pm.

The travels will continue as the Brakpan men then head up to the Lowveld for a battle with White River on Saturday, October 1, again at 3.30pm.

They will then return to their home base at Bosman on Saturday, October 8, where they will host Zimbabwe’s Old Georgians.

Kick-off will be at 3.30pm.

By this point skipper Francois Robbertse’s men will have hoped to have either won Pool C or finished as runner-up to advance to the quarter-final play-offs on Saturday, October 15, with pool winners getting home matches.

The semi-finals will follow thereafter on Saturday, October 22, while the final will be played on Saturday, October 29 (the team with the most log points in the pool stages will host the final).
