Rugby preparations underway

In the meantime, the club will be hosting a Stadium Golf Day on October 30.

Brakpan Rugby Club has started with 2022 season preparations. Players have been training every Wednesday.

The club started training in August as it was preparing for a seven-a-side tournament but, unfortunately, the competition at North-West University was cancelled due to Covid-19.

“It’s heartbreaking that the players couldn’t get the game time they wanted but we will keep training,” said Brakpan’s chairperson Harry Nieuwenhuis. We will keep training in case any other tournament pops up.”

Nieuwenhuis stated that the club officially starts its preseason training in November. He is hoping things will be easier than they have been as Covid-19 has cancelled the last two seasons.

“Hopefully the number of new infections stays low,” he said.

In the meantime, the club will be hosting a Stadium Golf Day on October 30. The event will be a fundraiser for legendary Brakpan star Hendrik Horn who played in the Currie Cup final back in 1972.

The former player has recently fallen ill and the club is looking to raise funds to help with his medical bills.

Horn had an illustrious playing career in the 1970s and today is part of the managerial committee at Brakpan.

Those who are interested in taking part in the golf day may contact Nieuwenhuis on 061 477 3633 or Sarel Korf on 082 317 4951.
