A young writer from Khutsong has big dreams for his future.

While other young people are wondering how to keep themselves busy, Keketso Matabane (23) has been writing several books.

“I’ve spent the past few years writing a collection called The Journey of a Man, a trilogy consisting of ‘Don’t Impress Them. Interest Them’, ‘Hunger’, and ‘The Silence’.

Together, these books explore the mind, the soul, and the heart through themes of identity, character, awareness, and introspection,” says Matabane.

Rather than selling his books, Matabane has decided to make the entire first edition available free of charge for this year.

“My hope is simple: that someone who reads these books feels encouraged to think more deeply about themselves and their own journey,” he explains. According to Matabane, he has always been the kind of person who asks difficult questions and enjoys exploring the human mind.

“My writing isn’t about telling people what to think;, it’s about inviting them to reflect, ask better questions, and discover their own answers,” he says.

Matabane says that he was inspired by the Herald’s article of another young Khutsong writer, Bonolo Refentse Menoe.

“Seeing someone from our own community being recognized for pursuing her dream reminded me that perhaps it’s time for me to speak up and share my own work.

Like Bonolo, I believe stories have the power to encourage people. While our writing is different, her courage to put her work into the world gave me the confidence to do the same,” says Matabane.
