Final voter registration weekend ahead of 2026 Local Government Elections
Merafong registration stations will be open on August 1 and 2 as the Electoral Commission urges residents to register or update their details before the November elections.
Residents who want to have their say in the upcoming elections and who have not yet registered have another opportunity to do so this weekend.
According to the IEC, Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2 are the final days that have been fully set out for registration.
All registration stations in the Merafong City Local Municipality will be open from 08:00 to 17:00. Registration will ensure that residents can vote in the Local Government Elections on November 4 this year.
According to the Electoral Commission, this final voter registration weekend builds on the success of the first registration weekend on June 20 and 21, during which the Commission processed about 2.9 million voter registration transactions.
The Commission further urged eligible voters to register or update their voter registration details online, reminding the public that its Online Voter Registration Portal is zero-rated across major mobile networks, which means that users can access the registration portal without paying for mobile data, making it possible to register to vote or update registration details even when they have no available data.
The commission encourages voters not to wait until the last minute to check their registration information and to ensure that their details are up-to-date ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Voters can access the Online Voter Registration Portal at registertovote.elections.org.za.
